Law Enforcement Experience
Gary joined the Baltimore City Police Department in November 2000 at the age of 20 and was assigned to the department as a Police Cadet. During his time as a Police Cadet, Gary worked in an administrative capacity and was responsible for taking incoming calls at the “Hot Desk” from Police Officers actively working on the street in a patrol or enforcement capacity. In April 2001, Gary attended and graduated from a Six-Month Police Academy with the Baltimore City Police Department and received certification through the Maryland Police Training Commission. Upon graduating from the Police Academy, Gary was assigned to the Patrol Division and worked in the Northern District in Baltimore City. While in the patrol division, Gary responded to several 911 calls for service such as shootings, arsons, robberies, thefts, etc. Gary further investigated those calls for service by conducting intricate interrogations, initiating door to door knock & talks, and if necessary, writing and obtaining arrest warrants/court summons. In 2005, Gary became a narcotics investigator and worked in an undercover capacity within the Northern District. Gary wrote and/or participated in search and seizure warrants and conducted lengthy investigations on local narcotic distributors during this time. Gary’s investigations on these offenders included gathering intelligence from informants, working plain clothes, orchestrating controlled purchase buys, and obtaining arrest warrants. Gary returned back to the Patrol Division in 2006 and worked there until he was assigned to the Asset Management Section of the Baltimore Police Department in 2017. While assigned to Asset Management, Gary worked at the Quartermaster Unit. Gary was responsible for outfitting police trainees who were new hires for the police academy, receiving and storing incoming police uniforms and equipment, data entry and receiving/disposing of uniforms and equipment of officers who were retiring and/or resigning.
